The newly appointed Alamo Municipal Advisory Council will hold its first meeting Wednesday afternoon, with largely organizational items on the initial agenda.
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved the MAC for Alamo on Aug. 11, and Supervisor Mary N. Piepho named seven MAC members in mid-October, who were confirmed by the full board Oct. 20.
"A Municipal Advisory Committee creates an identity for Alamo and a centralized voice to provide input and feedback to the district supervisor, the Board of Supervisors and county staff," Piepho stated in August.
The MAC responsibilities will include parks and recreation, lighting and landscaping, land-use and code enforcement, public safety, transportation and other county services.
The seven MAC members are David Barclay, Ed Best, David Bowlby, Nancy Dommes, Janet Evans, Michael McDonald and Steve Mick.
Although most of the members are well-known in the community and one ran for Alamo City Council along with incorporation earlier this year, they will make their debut as a MAC on Wednesday.
"I am satisfied that the group nominated brings together a variety of skill sets, perspectives, and knowledge of the community," Piepho said. "I believe each of them is willing to put differences aside and work constructively for the betterment of Alamo."
The meeting will begin with the swearing in of the new members, who will review the Municipal Advisory Council Handbook and discuss the scope of their work. They will discuss administrative staffing, having a chairman and the need for subcommittees.
Also on the agenda is identifying topics for future meetings and discussing a meeting schedule, which is proposed for the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
The meeting will include a public comment period toward the beginning when people may speak on topics not on the agenda, limited to three minutes. They are asked to comment on agenda items when they are being discussed, also keeping their comments to three minutes.
Materials for MAC meetings can be reviewed at Piepho's Danville office at 309 Diablo Road.
The MAC meeting is scheduled from 3-5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Forli Ristorante, 3160 Danville Blvd. in Alamo. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

For those neighbors recognizing the poor facilities for an audience today at the Contra Costa County Municipal Advisory Council for Alamo, please be aware that our business district investors and management are developing a town hall facility that is appropriate to community participation.
FYI,
Hal
