The Town of Danville will host this year's Sentinels of Freedom Holiday Welcome Home Ceremony and Reception.

The event will honor all current members of Armed Forces – active, reserve, National Guard – who are home on holiday leave and who reside in Danville, Blackhawk, Alamo, San Ramon and Dublin.

This year's event will take place from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 27, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 400 Hartz Ave. in Danville.

Members of the Danville Town Council will be in attendance to honor the military men and women as well as representatives from San Ramon and Dublin and Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary N. Piepho representing Alamo and Blackhawk. Other invited officials include U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney, state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, and Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan.

A special recognition will be presented to each of the honorees, followed by a reception of coffee and cookies. The public is invited to attend.

If you know a member of the Armed Forces home for the holidays from these areas, notify your city contract for more information:

Thank you Town Council for honoring the Military Service members who serve our Country during these trying days. This is a great gesture on the part of Danville, the Town Council, and (I hope) the majority of the Tri-Valley residents.

I salute all the Military Uniformed Service members and their families for their service to our country and their sacrifices; as well as I salute all the veterans and retirees who served in previous conflicts.

Thank you again, and may God bless you and the United States of America.
