Hats off to Sully for a good cause

Up and up the bidding goes. Where it will stop, nobody knows.
The bidding for Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger's pilot's hat on eBay was up to $4151.01 at 4 p.m. Tuesday, after only one day on the market.
This hat is not "the" hat, explains the write-up on eBay, because Sully was not wearing a hat on that fateful day in January when he landed the U.S. Airways plane full of passengers in the Hudson River and helped them all to safety. But this hat was worn by the renowned pilot for many years in cockpits and in airports around the country.
"No, we cannot promise that Capt. Sullenberger will personally deliver the hat," the organizers state on eBay.
Sully and his wife Lorrie Sullenberger donated the hat to be auctioned off to raise money for Dougherty Valley High School, which their daughters attend, and its sister school, Lockwood Elementary School in Oakland.
Lockwood, which is in one of Oakland's poorest neighborhoods, according to auction organizers, is the sister school of the San Ramon high school.
"We take our sister school relationship seriously. We hope that this auction is a success," said Denise Hibbard, principal at Dougherty Valley High.
Bidding began Monday and will close at 9 a.m., Monday, Dec. xx. To see the bids – or make a bid – go to eBay.com and search for Sully's pilot's hat.
