Realtor throws hat into ring
Bordogna makes fourth candidate for Danville Town Council

The filing period for the November election closed last Friday, and a Danville real estate broker is challenging the incumbents for one of the three seats on the Danville Town Council.

Marianne Bordogna, a resident since 1985, said that in her job as a Realtor she hears people voice their concerns, for instance, about the development of the Danville Hotel site and the Veterans Memorial Building.

"I want to be someone who helps solve problems," Bordogna said. "I want to make sure Danville stays unique."

The three incumbents announced their bid for re-election last month: Mayor Candace Andersen, who has served on the council since 2003; Vice Mayor Newell Arnerich, serving since 1995; and Councilman Mike Doyle, since 1991. They spoke together to say they are proud of their accomplishments, and said they plan to campaign together and also as individuals.

Bordogna said when she learned that only the incumbents were running, she decided to join the race.

"I think we should have other people in with different views," she said. "I get things done; I don't just analyze to death. Maybe my experience can be utilized by the town."

Bordogna is a former telecom and global management consulting executive. She was educated at Edinboro, Golden Gate and Carnegie Mellon universities. She noted in her candidate statement that although she is new to politics, she is not new to leadership roles.

But perhaps Bordogna is best known around town for producing the Dogs of Danville calendar, which uses contributed photos from residents and benefits police canine programs.

Before filing to run for the Town Council seat, Bordogna had focus groups to learn people's concerns.

"So many complained about the planning process and remodeling," she noted, adding that she herself had had some of the same problems.

She also said she wants to make sure teens, singles and seniors have activities and meeting places.

"A lot of other towns offer a lot at a lower price," she said.

She said she will also address potential Tassajara Valley development and its impact on Danville; infill projects; and helping the business community grow.

"I'm going to emphasize a few major points but I'm not saying the others don't care," she said.

The two incumbents on the San Ramon Valley Unified School District board have no challengers. Board president Greg Marvel and fellow trustee Paul Gardner were both elected to the Board of Education in 2000 and re-elected in 2004.
